15,000 lt of synthetic milk seized

The Punjab Health Department authorities seized more than 15,000 litres of synthetic milk from a tanker at Rajpura-based Gur Kirpa Vaishnu dhaba this afternoon.

Meanwhile,Punjab health minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla has directed Health officials to raid across the state to detect and curb sale and supply of synthetic milk and food items. The Health Department authorities have also been asked to take preventive measures round the year. We have made it our daily activity to check adulteration of food items, asserted Chawla to The Tribune.

Apart from the tanker, 100 drums were recovered from the dhaba (roadside eatery) by the Health Department team that were alleged to be used for adulteration.

There are those who have found a solution to this problem in online shopping, preferring an entirely digital approach.

Convenient? Sure. But then the giving process is reduced to a few clicks of the mouse, and even giftwrapping is left to a checked box on an order form.

So how does one put the heart and soul back into the gift giving? That’s where the hands come into play.

‘‘Giving a handmade craft gift or an original work of art is a statement of how special the recipient is to you," said Steven Newsome, director of Prince George’s Arts Council.

Whether made by the giver or purchased from a skilled artisan, handmade gifts can be unique, and show the person receiving the item that the giver truly cares.

There are two ways to go about giving that one-of-a-kind treasure: Hit the yarn shops and craft supply stores and get hands-on, or go hands-off and leave it to those with more skill and time.

What Thanksgiving means to me, part 2

Homemade apple (we had our own apple, pear, peach and cherry trees) and mince pies were her dessert specialty. She also made the cranberry sauce.

On Thanksgiving Day, Grandma would arrive via train from Paterson and we would pick her up at the DL&W railroad station in Dover. Gasoline was still in short supply then.

We all sat down to a beautifully set table, said a prayer led by my father, and enjoyed this feast. The best part was that everything on the table came from our garden or what we secured from hunting.

The sad part is that in today's busy atmosphere, this holiday seems to lose much of the meaning. We were very thankful for what we had and did not complain about what we didn't have. I enjoyed joining my dad on many hunting and fishing trips, and received an education from him that cannot be duplicated or replaced.

ORU plays a vital economic role here

Oral Roberts University, embroiled in a lawsuit intensely critical of its leaders and their spending, is no insignificant token in Tulsa's econo my, business people say.

It trains students for the work force; it spends money in the community; it employs about 1,600 people; it attracts visitors to the city; it provides consumers for businesses, and it has helped spawn businesses.

"I think it would really hurt the Tulsa economy if we lost ORU," said Vinson Reed, broker for McGraw Realtors.

Matt Davis, general manager of The Plaza shopping center across from ORU at 81st Street and Lewis Avenue, pointed out the unique Christian education ORU provides and said, "Wouldn't you think that all Oklahomans would want to see that setting continue to thrive and do well?"

Some critics have said they do not approve of ORU President Richard Roberts and want to see new leadership at the school.
