Nursing home violence

They can't go long without a break. For meals they have just toast and tea. A greater effort they can't make.

Barn dances they remember well, Their friends and cars, events long past. What day it is they cannot tell, Their present recalls do not last.

Some have been locked within their mind. They plead with us to let them out. It's not in them to be unkind. They're so afraid; that's why they shout.

If only someone else would care; They seem to be so all alone. Their children had no time to spare. It's modern 'life' that sets this tone.

There was one daughter with her mom. To her she shouts, "Don't make a fuss!" I wished to say, "Respect her some." In a few years she will be us.

Conn.: Real-Estate Suit Settled

HARTFORD, Conn. - A law firm, mortgage company and real estate broker have agreed to pay $700,000 in fines, forfeitures and restitution to settle allegations that they engaged in kickback schemes that cheated hundreds of home buyers for mortgage-related services, state officials said Monday.

The allegations expose an "uneven playing field" between the real estate industry, which is involved in numerous property transactions, and less-experienced home buyers, state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said.

He sued the Farmington law firm of Reiner, Reiner & Bendett in October, accusing it of concealing $142,200 in kickbacks and inducements between 2002 and 2005. The law firm, which also sells title insurance, used sham service, rental and other agreements to conceal the payments, Blumenthal said.

Jessica Yu's Protagonist

I knew I had to have something, but I was thinking more along the lines of animation. The problem with animation is that it's so specific, and I felt like I would need to tailor it to each story, but I didn't want to do that. I wanted to have something that felt more shared. And then it was actually all the interviews were done, after I already had a rough cut, that's when the puppet idea came up. The idea of it actually came out of the research on how Euripides plays were actually staged, you know the actors would wear these big masks, and there's something about masks, the fact that you can bring to them your own emotional responses. Depending on what the drama is, you see the face changing even when it isn't. Then Sue West, my other producer knew Janie Geiser, who is a fantastic puppet designer.
