| Nuclear Power In the United States: Finally Ready For Its Second Act
We may decide that nuclear is the best choice, but right now we are being told nuclear is the only choice. That is simply not true. ">George Sorwell said, September 28, 2007 at 6:17 am: I confess I know nothing about nuclear energy. Fail-safe shut offs seem useful, to say the least. As for the viability of solar or wind or other alternatives, I wonder if the pharmacutical industry provides a model. Lots of basic research is carried out by the NIH. Lines of research that seem promising are available for follow-up by private firms. ">Idiosyncrat said, September 28, 2007 at 6:23 am: We need an xprize to solve this dilemma. If guys with a million or two can do for space with it takes NASA billions to do, imagine what kind of innovation could happen on the alternative energy front? ">superdestroyer said, September 28, 2007 at 6:36 am: There is no way to have a Manhatten, Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, etc with solar and wind (which is really just solar power under another name).
You Better Watch Out For These 9 Holiday Scams
'Tis the season. The carolers are caroling. The shoppers are shopping. And the scammers are busily scamming away. While Cyber Monday has come and gone, attackers are still preying on shoppers looking for last-minute gifts and online deals. And in the thick of all this holiday cheer, many good-willed citizens forget that there still are cyber attackers waiting to take advantage of our money, lack of time and abundance of good will. "During the holidays, a much larger number of people use the Web. It presents more of a target rich environment," said Paul Ferguson, network architect for Trend Micro. More and more, holiday scammers are perfecting the art of the multifaceted approach in their attack strategy -- you'll increasingly find approaches like broad e-mail blasts working in tandem with well researched and acutely focused attacks.

DFO: Idawa came "in from the cold" earlier today, identifying himself to me. He's a young man with deep roots in North Idaho who currently lives in the Seattle area. A top-notch dude. I was thrilled to get to know him a little via e-mail. It'll make his posts here more enjoyable in the future because I do. So, I'm going to lay down this challenge to the rest of you totally anonymous blurkers. I'd like to know who you are (via private e-mail, of course). It increases your standing on the blog in my eyes. And makes my blogging experience richer. Question: Are you ready to come in from the cold? .
Museum's pond to be remade into a work of art
It's best if no one even notices the murky stormwater retention pond in a neglected corner of the N.C. Museum of Art park. And most visitors do not, drawn instead to the other 100 or so acres of rolling grassland and woods that are sprinkled with contemporary sculpture and hiking paths.Yet within a couple of years the bland pool could be the park's main attraction, resurrected by the combined forces of art and science. With its terraces of trees, shrubs and water-loving plants, the pond will become a water run-off demonstration project, an outdoor classroom for science studies and a piece of art.It will be the latest transformation by New York artist Mary Miss, who has spent the past three decades exploring a mix of architecture, landscape design and installation art around the country. Recently she began to combine that exploration with such disciplines as geology and hydrology to make art that solves actual ecological problems and educates the wider community at the same time. The Raleigh project may be the only installation of its kind developed by a museum, though other art and science partnerships have appeared in public places in recent years."Museums have been unsure what to do with us," Miss told an audience at the museum last week, where she gave the first public preview of what the project will look like.
Student dies after soccer practice
If one takes that kind of attitude, then the family should also file suit against me, as I was one of the people that wrote a letter of recommendation to Catoosa schools asking that Cody be allowed to transfer there to play soccar!! Come on folks, get a grip!! This was nothing more than one of those horrible tragedies in life that had nothing do to with negligence on ANYONE'S part. I know there is no amount of money that will ease his mom and dad's pain right now. To suggest that the school, the medical examiners, coaches or anyone else involved is liable for this tragedy is just insane. Please please just pray for the family and keep them in your thoughts. They have suffered an unimaginable loss. .

Businessman stabbed at Sukhna
The guards had yesterday allegedly bashed up three youths in Sector 26. Earlier, briefing the mediapersons at the Sector-17 police station, the UT Inspector-General of Police (IGP) said no one was above the law and the matter would be dealt on merit. The media had raised questions over the functioning of the local police after the victims alleged that the police was forcing them to reach a compromise. In a statement issued this evening, the police said a case had been registered on the basis of a hand-written joint complaint lodged by the three victims Mr Neeraj Puri, Mr Satwinder Singh and Mr Akhilesh. They had alleged that they were assaulted by the staff of the Chief Secretary following an accident. The statement further mentioned that the police had also received a complaint from the staff attached to the Chief Secretary alleging that the trio had obstructed them from discharging their duties, entered into a scuffle with them and also torn their uniforms.
